Arts
The PCP commenced a Community Arts Liaison Project in October 07 in response to the need expressed by artists, community members, health and community service agencies for community arts development. An officer has been funded for 2 years by Arts Victoria and an Arts Network established with over 40 members. The members have expressed their support for the PCP's coordination of initiatives to address the priority needs recognised as a result of the mapping survey completed in January 2008.
A Southern Grampians shire wide Arts Project is currently being undertaken called the Creative Web Project. This professional development project is aimed at local artists, using professional Melbourne artist Ian Pidd as a mentor.
Another project currently being undertaken in partnership with Youthbiz (WDHS) is Life in the Fast Lane, forming part of National Youth Week. Photographs taken by local young people will be professionally printed and then displayed in laneways in the Hamilton CBD with photography workshops being run.

Climate Change
Climate Change Framework: The PCP has developed a strategic Framework to guide a local multi-sector response to climate change and rural adjustment. This document identifies the broad social and health impacts of climate change, including impacts on community strength and reslilience. The PCP is leading the way in this area, with local and state government, community and other organisations regarding the Framework as a leading planning tool applicable to any geographic area.
Heat Wave: SGG PCP was selected with 9 other PCPs to participate in a pilot project for the Victorian Heatwave Strategy. This is a component of the Department of Human Services' Climate Change Adaptation program. Results of the pilots will be used to develop local government resources for the distribution across the state. Heatwaves are a focus for public health because they are expected to cause excess deaths and illness as evidence during the heatwaves elsewhere in the world, including an estimated 35,000 deaths in Western Europe in 2003. The local Heatwave Strategy will identify who is most vulnerable to the impacts of heatwave; how we can best alert them to heatwave conditions; how those at risk should respond to reduce the risk and what recovery plans are required.
